Heather Bayer is the big ideas generator. Her people and networking skills are unsurpassed in the industry and her dynamic approach to marketing keeps CLRM one step ahead of the vacation market curve. She has developed the Cottage Blogger Blog had the second edition of her book, Renting your Recreational Property for Profit, published by Self Counsel Press, and contributes to forums and message boards as a recognized expert on vacation rentals. Heather spends a lot of time talking with potential renters to make sure they are matched to the right property. “I’ve got a sixth sense with regard to what someone tells me. I can usually recognize a “party group” or someone that is not quite right for a cottage, within the first minutes of talking with them. I feel screening is such an important service for our owners, that it cannot be compromised,” said Heather.
Phil Bayer is the details man in the office. His focus is on making sure all the information we have on a property is correct; to get all information to and from renters in good time, and to monitor all the financial aspects of the transaction. Phil is retired from the Royal Air Force having spent 35 years as a navigator flying worldwide on missions including the Falkland Islands conflict and Desert Storm, all of which makes him very able to deal with the occasional crises that arise in the office. When Phil and Heather started CLRM, they were the only active ‘Account Managers’ so still manage cottages throughout Southern Ontario and Quebec. Although they will continue to represent their original properties, in the future, they will be concentrating on developing the market in the Eastern Ontario region.
Craig White founded CottageLINK.com in 1996 and is very familiar with the cottage market. He also brings with him 20 years of systems, database and management experience in the corporate world at Manulife Financial. He works at improving our internal systems and web site. As co-owner of CLRM with Heather, his skills and style complement those of Heather to create a well-rounded management team. CottageLINK was founded as a result of one of Craig’s unfortunate experiences of renting a cottage. He knows well the impact of ensuring all our rental clients get value for their money. Craig has begun re-discovering cottage country from the viewpoint of a bicycle, a process that will take many enjoyable years.
Mike Bayer, as you may have guessed is Heather and Phil’s son and is the account manager for the Haliburton Highlands and Kawartha Lakes regions. Having been around the Vacation Rental Business since Heather started in 1999 and also after owning his own Cottage Property Maintenance Business in Haliburton (2001-2004), he has a great deal of insight into the ups, downs, ins and outs of the business from an owner and renters perspective. Mike and his family (Andrea and baby Arya) also bought into the business by renting their own cottage property (Seabreeze Cottage). This allows them to understand the trials and tribulations of a vacation rental owner from their own experiences and enabling him to better serve his owners. Mike also has a talent for videography and photography and produces most of the visual media you will find on the website.

We love to hear her on the phone with our rental clients as her easy manner and delightful sense of humour convert inquiries to confirmed bookings.
